As we were contemplating the first leg of our trip, which we knew would involve 7-10 days of continuous offshore sailing, we realized that we needed additional crew. We scouted around for someone who had experience sailing the Pacific Northwest. Lee Youngblood was a recommendation. He was described as a good guy and an "Old Salt," which we considered to be a highly respectable description and exactly the type of sailor and crewmate we were looking for.
As it turned out, Lee was not only an experienced sailor, but a high-energy, positive addition to our crew who clearly enjoys his time behind a camera as well. Lee's background as a professional photographer was soon evident. In some of the most precarious moments, when it seemed best to make all points of physical contact with any stable part of the boat, there would be Lee, reaching for his camera.
Life is a series of moments, and Lee has a subtle manner of capturing those that are most memorable. Below is a small sampling of Lee's story-telling style of photography. The timeline of these images spans from our preparations for departure in Port Townsend to our arrival in SanFrancisco.
We hope you enjoy Lee's photos.
